Here are some pictures from the 38th Annual World Championship BBQ Goat Cook-Off sponsored by the Brady, TX, Chamber of Commerce on Labor Day Weekend, Sept 2 & 3, 2011. In the past, there was some controversy about the selection of Sense & Nonsense winners So this year, we will reveal all about how our winners are selected. Please be aware that the Brady Chamber of Commerce has nothing to do with it.Everyone in attendance noticed the public voting booths and cast a vote or two. Many may have voted more than once but that is OK. In fact it is an American tradition to vote as often as possible and in no way casts doubt on the final tally and ultimate winner of the election.
→ Vote !! → Vote !! → Vote !! →
You see, our unknown and unknowable vote counters use advanced scientific methods to accurately determine the will of the people regardless of how they vote. Rumor has it that the advanced mathematical model considers both weight and volume of votes cast to calculate integrals of vote density. Hanging chads were counted as negative votes and subtracted from the final count.
Once the integral vote density is calculated, it is sanitized with powerful chemicals and released for publication. The release is done by clairvoyance to unconscious reporters. My press release came to me in a bizarre dream about 2:00 AM while I was sound asleep.
The first thing voters agreed upon is that it is very dry in McCulloch County. People who cursed the mud at past Cook-Offs found themselves longing for some this year. Here are a couple of pictures of Brady Creek that give some clues about how severe the drought actually is.
As you can see, the creek is not running but some spots still have standing water where there are small springs still flowing. You can see on the hillside on the right side that native trees and plants are having a hard time.
It is impossible to keep kids out of the creek whether there is water in it or not. This year, they could play in the creek without getting wet and muddy. Mothers were happy with their good fortune until excited youngsters started finding some nice dead, rotten fish to bring home as trophies.
And now ...
